Tango was born in the 1880's, Buenos Aires, Argentina. A blend of black and European traditions, it is passionate, vigorous, stylized and fearless. In 1910 Tango travelled to Paris and soon after, to Hollywood. Later, in the 1930's, Tango lyrics added a new dimension. Astor Piazzolla, born in Buenos Aires, 1921, and raised with Jazz in New York City, returned to Buenos Aires in the late 1930's to begin performing in Tango orchestras. Piazzolla, who was a superb bandeneon player, also composed and arranged for symphony, octet and finally, by 1960, his famous "Quinteto Nuevo Tango", which combined Tango with Jazz.
